Rev. Dr. Larry E. Covington

Since 1995, Pastor Covington has been giving visionary leadership to the fellowship of excitement known as Ebenezer.

Born and reared in Danville, Virginia, the youngest son of the late Johnny and Edna Covington, Pastor Covington has, for over 35 years of ministry, been spreading God’s word both nationally and internationally in the power of the Holy Spirit. Pastor Covington is known as a revivalist and lecturer, preaching and conducting leadership conferences all over the country.

Pastor Covington is involved in the local community as an advocate for education, social justice, and civic engagement. He also spends a considerable amount of time counseling and teaching others from our community and beyond. He has served on a number of boards and commissions. He presently serves on the BB&T Bank Advisory Board, the Impact Alamance Advisory Board, the G.R.A.S.P. Scholarship Board, the Board of Trustees for Hosanna Bible College and the Executive Board of Kingdom Living Now – an international foreign missions organization. He also serves on the Multi-cultural Advisory Board at Liberty University. Pastor Covington presently serves as the Vice President and Program Chair for the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance of Alamance County.

Pastor Covington is known most of all for his devotion to his wife Mrs. Caroline E. Covington, his children Joshua and Jodi (both of Covington, Georgia), and grandchildren Amenia and Amyla Lewis (Covington, Georgia). Besides his love for his family, he is widely known for his love for the body of Christ and the expositional proclamation of God’s word.

Since being at Ebenezer, the Lord has blessed his ministry to produce a number of fruitful visionary projects:

-The building of the ECCO (Ebenezer Center for Christian Opportunities) in 2002 (a 13,000 sq. foot family life center)

-The founding of Excel Christian Academy and Afterschool Program (a Christian based school for ages 2 through Pre-K, including a summer program)

-The Manasseh & Ephraim Residential Recovery Ministry for Men (an 18 month transitional home that helps men constrained by substance abuse issues recover and transition to a lifestyle of being disciplined, productive citizens)

-The WELL Ministry (a Residential Recovery Home for Women)

-The Inez Guye Ministry (for victims of Domestic Abuse)

-The HOPE House (family transition ministry for displaced persons)

-The Place (a community center for youth equipped with a computer lab)

Pastor Covington has led Ebenezer to be Christocentric, biblically grounded, and community connected in its focus. He believes that the church must have a local, natural and global reach (Acts 1:8; Matt. 28:19-20) as a witness for Jesus Christ.

Pastor Covington is licensed and ordained both by the Baptist as well as the United Church of Christ denominations and has pastored previously in Nashville, TN, Powell, TX and Hamilton, Bermuda. He has served as a Missions Consultant with Foreign Missions Board (SBC), a Director of Ministries, an Executive Pastor, and as a church consultant. He presently is the founder and President of InStep Ministries. He is also Founder/Dean of the Ebenezer Institute of Theological Studies.

Pastor Covington is the author of the book: “The Power of Perverted Potential; Lessons from the Life and Lips of Samson.”
